The Story
I started Helms Productions because I believe wedding films should be more than documentation — they should be art that moves you. Every couple has a unique story, and it's my job to tell it in a way that feels true to who they are.
I've filmed nearly 150 weddings across the Carolinas — from intimate backyard ceremonies to grand estate venues. What I've learned is that the moments that matter most are never the ones you plan. They're the ones that happen between the planned ones. That's where I focus my lens.
I pride myself on being a calm, unobtrusive presence. My couples consistently tell me they forgot I was there — and that's exactly the point. The result is a film that feels real, because it is.

Before picking up a camera professionally, Michael served in the United States Army. That experience instilled values that define every aspect of how Helms Productions operates — discipline, preparation, reliability, and an unwavering commitment to doing the job right the first time.

The Craft
Michael holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Filmmaking from the prestigious UNC School of the Arts — one of the top film programs in the country. That foundation isn't just a credential. It's the reason every Helms Productions wedding film tells a story rather than simply recording an event.
A formal filmmaking education teaches you to think in terms of narrative structure, visual composition, emotional pacing, and cinematic language. When Michael frames a shot, selects a piece of music, or structures an edit, he's drawing on years of studying what makes a story resonate — and applying it to the most important day of your life.
